For the second time in less than a week, the East Providence High School girls' outdoor track and field team finished second to its neighbors from Barrington as the host Eagles followed up their unbeaten run to the Eastern Division dual meet title with a victory in the league championship meet Saturday, May 4.

Barrington, which went 12-0 to win the Eastern duals crown over once-beaten and second place EPHS, tallied 211.5 points to capture the division title. The Townies were once again the runners-up, tallying 120.5. Mt. Hope was third with 113.

East Providence's day was highlighted by the win in the 4x100 meter relay quartet of Nazarae Phillip, Kandace Daniel, Kendra Daniel and Aliyah Evora, who clocked a time of 50.29 seconds.

Also locally, Providence Country Day finished eighth in the girls' team ranks with 17 points. The third-place 4x1 relay of Kendra Satinx, Foster Olivia, Ainya Wardina and Susan Reeves earned the top result for the Knights, running a 54.1 seconds. Bay View was next in ninth with 16.5 points. Jackie Mattos' fourth-place run in the 11:10.46 in the 3,000 was best for the Bengals.

On the boys' side, the EPHS squad placed fourth with 69 points behind another Barrington win with 325. Portsmouth was a distant second with 111 followed by Rogers in third with 79.

The Townies' best result was provided by its runners in the 400 where Jaidin Ivy and Justin Jardine ran second and third, respectively, to Barrington's Will DiGiacomo, who clocked a 50.99. Ivy ran 53.09 and Jardine a 53.40. In addition, EP's Julius Cortes was fifth with a 54.91.

More girls' notes
Phillip had the top individual finishes for the EPHS girls, running second in both the 100 (12.62) and 200 (26.55) dashes.

Kendra Daniel ran third in the 100 (12.8) and was also fourth in the 200 (27.09) while Kandace Daniel was fifth in the 100 (13.18) and third in the 200 (26.9). Evora also scored in the 100 with her eighth-place run (13.8).

Back to the relays, the EPHS grouping of Nadine Fortes, Kendra Daniel, Keira Mullen and Layla Bates were second in 4:20.18. In the 4x8, the Townies' contingent of Kathryn Patalano, Sadie Gagnon, Melany Sotomayor and Alicia Pinto were fourth in 11:07.94

Mullen led a 3-5-6 run for the Townies in the 300 hurdles, clocking a 50.29 followed Bates in 51-79 and Rylie Souto in 52.75. In the 100 version, Mullen was fourth in 16.9 and Trinity Johnson-Carter seventh in 17.79. Patalano added a sixth-place finish in the 800, running a 2:34.41.

In the field events, four Townies placed fourth — Phillip in the high jump at 4 feet, 9 inches; Wendy Monteiro in the discus with a 61'7"; Kandace Daniel in the pole vault at 7'6"; and Audrey Lepine in the triple jump 32'4.5."

Aalina Amoros was also fifth in the discus with a 59'11." Lepine was seventh in the long jump at 15'.75." Whitney Monteiro (81'9"), Taraji Malcome (81'4") and Wendy Monteiro (77'5") finished 5-6-7 in the hammer. Also Wendy Monteiro was eighth in the shot (22'9") as was Petty in the javelin (74'4").

More boys' notes
The rest of the best for the EPHS boys came from thir 4x4 relay where Julius Cortes, Mac Prevete, Jardine and Ivy ran third in 3:40.26. The Townies' 4x8 relay of William Anthony, William Massey, Giuseppe Belanger and Ryan Cahoon was sixth in 9:47.82. Also individually on the track, Jack Pawlik was sixth in the 100 at 11.62. Jardine was fifth in the 200 at 23.72

In the field events, Brandyn VanWagner was second in the triple jump at 39'3.25" with Pawlik eighth at 37'1." Cam, Evora was third in the long jump at 20'6.5." Michael Precious was fourth in the hammer with a toss of 143'7." Stephane Mardy and Bryan Riveira went 5-6 in the pole vault at 8'6" and 8.' Dylan Slavick was sixth in the high jump at 5'10" with Evora seventh at the same height on more attempts. And Logan Xavier was sixth in the javelin with a distance of 110'3."

Up next
The East Providence High School boys' squad next heads to West Warwick Saturday, May 11, to participate in the Brian St. Germain Invitational meet at 10 a.m. The meet serves as another chance for EPHS athletes to qualify for the upcoming state championships.
