Officer Joel Saccoccio receives Glenford Shibley Leadership Award

Posted

Barrington School Resource Officer Joel Saccoccio recently received the 2024 Glenford Shibley Leadership Award, which recognizes an SRO that has made a specific and significant contribution to their community and/or school district.

Some of the reasons the Executive Board of the RI SRO Association chose SRO Saccoccio included his consistent and sustained commitment to better the lives of children while serving as an SRO in both the communities of Pawtucket and Barrington.

While working in Pawtucket, SRO Saccoccio not only effectively bridged the gap between his police department and the students in an urban ring school district, he coordinated programs to better their lives. Most notably he organized clothing drives for youth with clothing insecurity.

More recently in Barrington he recruited the partnership of AAA to create the Basic & Emergency Vehicle Maintenance Program. This innovative program will not only teach high school students about the basic maintenance needs of a vehicle but build rapport with the student population as well.

SRO Sacciocco was nominated by Sgt. Richard Parenti of the Scituate Police Department.

Barrington Police Chief Michael Correia commended SRO Saccoccio for the work he does every day in Barrington and at Barrington Schools.
